  Message from President

At the outset, let me thank you all for the support and co-operation extended to me in facilitating my election as President of the Skating Association of Maharashtra (SAM). It is indeed a rich legacy to inherit, which I will keenly endeavour to carry forward with utmost sincerity, hard work and humility. Before I expand on my vision for Roller Skating for the state of Maharashtra, first and foremost, I thank the earlier committee members for their invaluable contribution to this sport and humbly look forward to their continued support in making Maharashtra reach the pinnacle of Roller Skating in India. I am optimistic that the first medal yet to be won by India in the World Championships will by achieved by the state of Maharashtra. This optimism is definitely not mis-placed, in view of the fact that Maharashtra state won the overall championship in Roller Skating at the National School Games held in Chandigarh in January 2009.
My vision for Roller Skating in Maharashtra may be summed up as follows:

  • To encourage more skaters to participate not just at a competitive level but also for building and maintaining body fitness.
  • Create world class infrastructure in our state, to enable our skaters to have access to the latest modern technologies with the ultimate aim of hosting the World Championships.
  • Bring about transparency in our operations.
  • Advance intimation of dates and venues of all important events such as DSO, RSFI, etc. We are happy to announce the dates for the State level RSFI as October 28 to November 01, 2009 to be held in Nagpur. We are also planning to hold the DSO State competition to be held around the same time after getting approval from State DSO.
  • To ensure that 10th standard students get 25 marks which the state education Department has allocated for participation at state level sports. This will be accomplished by ensuring the event is held within the stipulated time frame and the certificates are given promptly.
  • The concept of issuance of ID cards to each state level skater was initiated last year and we now look forward to its full implementation this year. This ID Card will ensure a unique registration number for each and every skater in the state, thus eliminating the need for producing bonafide certificates for any state race. All skaters will be advised to send in their registrations through their respective district bodies.
  • We intend to aim high with our ambitions and one such peak we intend to scale will be the nomination of our skaters & coaches for Shiv Chhatrapati Award and Dadaji Kondadev Award given by the State Government.
  • Website: The website is being uploaded and refreshed with new information on a timely basis. Pages are allocated to all districts, and we encourage district associations to send their entries through their Presidents or Secretaries, any news items from their areas as well as photos of their skaters, which will subsequently be uploaded onto the website.

A new feature on the website will be Ask the Experts. An expert panel of Physicians, Surgeons & skating experts comprise our panel. Some of them are: Dr.Rakesh Sinha (Internationally renowned Gynaecologist), Dr.Suhas Kate (Orthopedic consultant & President of Association of Medical consultants), Dr.Vinod Gidwani (Cardiologist) , Dr. Jaydev Panchwagh ( Neurosurgeon), Dr.Malay Dave (Psychiatrist), Dr. Mukul Dabholkar (Eminent dentist); we expect further additions in the form of Physiotherapist, Eye specialist and Paediatrician to the team shortly. Further, the Panel of skating experts from Speed, Artistic and Hockey will be announced shortly. Skaters, parents and coaches are encouraged to email their questions to the experts at samrsfi@gmail.com , and every attempt will be made to respond in the shortest possibe time.

The world speed skating championship will be held in China In September, Artistic & Roller hockey are also coming up .The selection trials by RSFI for these tournaments are being currently being held . Several skaters from the state are taking part, and I wish them all the very best. I am very sure that many of them will get selected and don the India colours in these International events.

Please feel free to contact at me by email on samrsfi@gmail.com if you have any queries or need any further information.

Wishing you all the very best.

Prof.P.K.Singh.
President SAM.
